Grass Seed for Old Fill, Glacial Till and Coastal Wind
Hydroseeding Boston sprays new lawns, stabilizes slopes and sets up sediment controls for homeowners, builders and property managers across the city and its suburbs. Before any seed goes down, we handle the ground work too: grading, topsoil, debris removal and the drainage trenching a regraded yard sometimes needs.
The work here is shaped by the ground. Much of inner Boston sits on land that was marsh or tidal flat until it was filled, so a city yard can be a few inches of soil over brick, cinders and gravel. Out in the suburbs the common soil is Paxton, the Massachusetts state soil: a dark brown fine sandy loam on top of firm glacial till that roots and water both struggle to get through. Add about 43.6 inches of precipitation a year, roughly 49 inches of snow in an average season, and nor'easters that can drop a lot of rain on fresh seed, and you get the reason we treat soil prep and mulch as seriously as the seed itself.
How we work
- We look first. A free visit lets us measure the area, dig a few test holes, check the slope and see how water leaves the site.
- You get it in writing. The estimate lists prep, topsoil, seed blend, mulch type and any erosion or sediment controls as separate lines, and the signed total is exactly the figure you are billed.
- We match the seed to the spot. Full sun, heavy shade, a harbor-side yard and a dry slope each get a different cool-season blend.
- We time it to the season. Late summer and early fall are our main seeding window, with spring as the second choice.
- We protect the drains and the neighbors. Where bare soil can wash toward a street or a catch basin, we put silt sock, silt fence or inlet protection in place before we spray.
- We leave you a plan. Every job ends with written watering, mowing and fertilizing instructions for the first six weeks.
We do not put a name or a crew photo on this page that is not real, and we do not post reviews we cannot show you. What we can tell you is how we will prep and seed your ground and what it will cost, after we have seen it.
