When a Natick Ranch Gets an Addition
Hydroseeding in Natick often follows an addition. From the late 1940s to the late 1950s the town filled with tract housing, including Campanelli ranch houses in Wethersfield and Cape-style homes north of Route 9. Many of those houses have been enlarged or replaced, and each project leaves a torn-up yard that needs grading and a new lawn.
Regrading around a bigger footprint
A larger house changes how water moves around it. Before seeding we fine grade so the yard slopes away from the new foundation, rebuild low spots with topsoil, and check that downspouts do not dump onto fresh seed. Our grading crew can also trench for a drain line if the yard needs one.
Lakes and ponds in town
Water covers about 7 percent of Natick, including Lake Cochituate and Dug Pond, where the high school sits on the shore. Jennings Pond, south of Route 9, is ringed with small cottages close to the water. On lots this near a pond, we put silt sock or silt fence on the low side while the soil is bare and seed as soon as grading ends.
The Charles in South Natick
The town began on the shores of the Charles River in South Natick. Yards along that stretch can be low and damp. We lean toward grass blends that handle wet feet and keep sediment barriers in place until the lawn is solid.
Weather to plan around
Natick's 1991 to 2020 normals show about 47.3 inches of precipitation on roughly 125 wet days and about 48.2 inches of snow. The steady rain is good for grass but means bare soil rarely gets a dry spell. A hydromulch cover protects it from the first storm after spraying.
Busy commercial corridors
Route 9 in East Natick turns over businesses often, and the Natick Mall, rebuilt in 1994 and expanded in 2007, is one of New England's largest shopping centers. Commercial pads, islands and slopes along these corridors need erosion control during construction and quick seeding after.

Natick Questions
We just added a family room. When can the yard be seeded?
As soon as the exterior work and final grade are done. Seeding sooner protects the soil and cuts down on mud tracked into the house.
Can you fix a yard that now drains toward the house?
Yes. We regrade to move water away from the foundation and can trench a drain if grading alone will not do it.
Our lot is on Jennings Pond. Anything special?
We keep a sediment barrier between the work and the water and seed quickly. Check with the town on any permits for work near the pond.
Can you hydroseed just the part that was dug up?
Yes. We blend the edges into the existing lawn so the patch fills in evenly.
